Rovers SC, LRVI FC Victorious in USVISF Sunday Thrillers

There was no shortage of suspense for USVISF soccer fans Sunday afternoon. Rovers SC upset Big 4 contenders Helenites SC 4-1 in the first match of USVISF President’s Cup Round Three. On St. Thomas, LRVI FC beat Massey SA 4-3 with a successful last-minute penalty kick.
Rovers SC vs Helenites SC
Rovers made the most of their opportunity to secure a win against championship-focused Helenites at Bethlehem Soccer Complex on St. Croix.
Aaron Delsol found the back of the net only three minutes into the game to claim an early lead for Rovers. Helenites’ Taj Alexander tied the game 1-1 in the 19th minute. Kidaniel Perez scored a second Rovers’ goal just before the end of the half, securing a 2-1 lead. Rovers built on that momentum in the second half with two additional goals by Roldeson Lazard (68’) and Vasco Manuel Palacios Gil (89’) to win the match 4-1.
Rovers will enjoy a bye week before facing off with St. Thomas’s New Vibes SC in the President’s Cup Final on Sept. 28.
Massey SA vs LRVI SC
At Ivanna Eudora Kean High School on St. Thomas, LRVI FC edged out a 4-3 victory against Massey SA in the final match of the USVISF Men’s Premier League.
Massey’s Jalen Thomas (8’, 25’) and Amorie Carty (20’) scored three goals in the first 25 minutes of gameplay. John Engerman scored LRVI’s first goal in the 16th minute. A successful penalty kick by Axel Bartsch brought the score to 3-2 at the end of the first half. Jason McKibben tied the game, scoring a third goal for LRVI at the 63-minute mark. In the final seconds of the game, Bartsch sailed in another well-placed penalty kick to clinch a 4-3 win – a sweet end to a tough season for LRVI.
