A Vermont man living on St. Thomas allegedly left multiple threatening phone messages for the prosecutor of his mainland domestic violence case. Todd Hoyte pleaded not guilty to stalking and making interstate threats Thursday.
The Virgin Islands Police Department, with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Vermont police, arrested Hoyte, 57, in April, according to court records and local news accounts.
Using a phone associated with a Compass Point address, Hoyt allegedly made at least 13 threatening and abusive phone calls to the Grand Isle County State’s Attorney, some threatening the Vermont prosecutor’s life, according to charging documents.
Starting in July 2024, the expletive-laced phone messages included phrases like, “your days are numbered,” and “You made an attempt on my life, as I see it. So I’m going to return the favor to you,” and “I hope somebody kills you soon,” according to court records.
Hoyte and a girlfriend allegedly attempted to conceal their whereabouts from both authorities and family members, according to charging documents.
If found guilty, Hoyte could be sentenced to five year prison sentences.
