The Virgin Islands Office of Highway Safety, in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is launching the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign from Aug. 1 through Sept. 31, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
Motorists in both districts can expect increased enforcement along major roadways, including Routes 30, 32, 38, and 40 on St. Thomas; Routes 10 and 20 on St. John; and Routes 70, 75, 66, 68, 62, and 82 on St. Croix. Officers will focus on ensuring compliance with seat belt laws for drivers, passengers, and children, as required by Title 20, Section 466 of the Virgin Islands Code, according to the press release.
In addition to checking for seat belt use, officers will address other violations, such as unregistered or uninsured vehicles, improper window tints, license plate infractions, and impaired driving, the press release stated.
The campaign is part of a broader national effort to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities through high-visibility enforcement, the release stated.
