A 15-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Jordan Jones, the local comedian known as “Dutty Heart,” who was gunned down in broad daylight Thursday on the Christiansted boardwalk.
The arrest was made Thursday by the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. The minor suspect faces a slew of charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He has been remanded to the Youth Rehabilitation Center pending a court hearing, according to the V.I. Police Department
Jones was shot multiple times just before 1 p.m. Thursday while walking along the boardwalk with a friend. Witnesses told police a man in a dark hoodie approached the two, a brief struggle broke out, and then shots rang out. Jones died later at Juan F. Luis Hospital. His companion was grazed by a bullet but survived.
Police credited the quick arrest to a combination of strong witness cooperation and the rapid response of investigators. “This heartbreaking event unfolded in broad daylight, shaking our community,” acting Police Commissioner Sean Santos said. “Thanks to the residents who stepped up, we were able to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect.”
The investigation is still active, and police are urging anyone with additional information to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI at 800-222-TIPS. All tips are confidential.
