Man Arrested After Allegedly Breaking Into Former Bank Building

Virgin Islands News

A 33-year-old St. Croix man is facing multiple charges after police say he was caught inside the old First Bank building on King Street in Christiansted shortly after midnight Tuesday, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Orsel Edney was discovered around 12:10 a.m. when a detective conducting routine business checks noticed a man inside the shuttered property. Upon inspection, the detective found signs of forced entry and confirmed that Edney was inside the building without authorization, according to the police report.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, which charged Edney with third-degree burglary, destruction of property, trespass, and unlawful entry. He was booked and unable to post the $25,000 bail, and was subsequently transported to the John A. Bell Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility, the police report stated.

Edney is scheduled to appear in Superior Court for an advice of rights hearing Wednesday, the report stated.
