The Virgin Islands Trail Alliance invites the community to celebrate the season with two uplifting events on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m.: a free tree giveaway and a 4-mile Holiday Walk.
Community members are welcome to join either event or both, each offering a joyful and meaningful way to spend a holiday Sunday morning.
The Virgin Islands Trail Alliance will share about 100 free fruit trees with the community, a free fruit-tree for you to plant and enjoy. Varieties include mammee apple, jackfruit, sea grape, acerola cherry, cacao, and bell apple.
The roughly 4-mile walk will take about 1.5 hours.
Event Schedule – Sunday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon
Tree Giveaway at the Christiansted Government Parking Lot, by the Baobab Tree.
The Holiday Walk departs from the same place at 9 a.m.
Tree Giveaway: A Free Fruit-Tree for You to Plant and Enjoy
- Free, one tree per person (mammee apple recipients may receive more than one for pollination)
- Trees available first come, first serve
- Printed care instructions included
- Participants are asked to share a photo of their planted tree by emailing info@vitrails.org

4-Mile Holiday Walk: Scenic, Social and Full of Island Spirit
Celebrate the holidays outdoors! Led by Stephen Cohen and Esther Sweeney of the St. Croix Hiking Association, the walk invites participants to enjoy a morning of movement, connection, and island views.
Meeting time: 9:00 AM at the Christiansted Government Parking Lot (Baobab Tree)
Route Highlights:
- Meet at the Christiansted Government Parking Lot (Baobab Tree)
- Walk along the Christiansted waterfront toward Altona Lagoon
- Climb to the Hillside Overlook at Altona Lagoon, with benches and sweeping lagoon and ocean views
- Continue to the Storytelling Circle under the Tamarind Tree at Canegata Recreational Center
- Ascend to the Christiansted Bypass Overlook, offering panoramic views of town and the harbor.
- Return through Christiansted to finish back at the Baobab Tree
Participant Guidance:
- Bring comfortable closed-toe walking shoes
- Bring hat for sun protection
- Bring water and snacks
This moderate 4-mile loop is perfect for a holiday Sunday outing. We will take breaks along the route to rest and enjoy the views, by the benches provided and installed by the Virgin Islands Trail Alliance.
