Frederiksted Man Accused of Threatening to Slash Woman’s Throat

Virgin Islands News

A 52-year-old Frederiksted man was arrested Wednesday, June 4, after allegedly making violent threats to a former acquaintance, including threats to kill her and cut her throat, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The female complainant reported the incident to police at approximately 3:09 p.m. She told officers that David Muzzy called her cell phone, left threatening voicemails, and sent text messages. In one message, Muzzy allegedly stated that he would cut her throat the next time they crossed paths. The complainant confirmed the phone number belonged to Muzzy and played a voicemail for the responding officer in which a male voice could be heard making the threat, according to the police report.

Police later located Muzzy in Frederiksted and transported him to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. He was read his Miranda rights and declined to give a formal statement. He did, however, tell officers that he had received threats from the complainant, which he claimed prompted his response, the police report stated.

Muzzy was arrested and charged with disturbance of the peace by threats (domestic violence) and harassment by telephone (domestic violence). No bail was set, as mandated by the territory’s domestic violence statute. He was processed and transported to the John H. Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.
