Governor Bryan Takes Action on Legislative Measures Passed by 35th Legislature

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. announced his approval of several significant bills passed by the 35th Legislature during its recent session on October 16, 2024. 

These actions underscore the Governor’s dedication to addressing a range of issues affecting the Virgin Islands, from strengthening the rights of vulnerable populations to bolstering public safety, health, and economic growth.

Governor Bryan has exercised a veto on Bill No. 35-0388, which proposed amendments to felony prosecution procedures. The bill’s current provisions would place an undue strain on the Territory’s judicial and prosecutorial systems, requiring additional time to implement. The Governor emphasizes the need for a coordinated timeline with prosecutorial offices to ensure a smooth transition without overburdening the courts or risking the swift administration of justice.

Acknowledging Legislative Overrides

Additionally, Governor Bryan respects the Legislature’s recent overrides of several acts, including Act Nos. 8919, 8920, 8921, and 8922, reflecting a productive collaboration that ensures critical initiatives continue moving forward.
