U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. will travel to St. Kitts this week to participate in the 2025 Global Sustainable Islands Summit, where he will join fellow heads of state from Caribbean nations and island territories around the world for critical discussions on climate resilience, sustainable development, and climate finance.
Governor Bryan is scheduled to speak at the Summit’s Climate Finance Forum on Friday, May 30, where he will highlight the U.S. Virgin Islands’ ongoing efforts to attract climate investment, strengthen disaster resilience, and build a more sustainable and equitable future for island communities. His remarks will center on the importance of accessible financing for small island jurisdictions and the need for global partnerships that prioritize vulnerable coastal populations.
“The challenges facing island nations are urgent and shared. Rising seas, extreme weather, and aging infrastructure demand a new kind of global cooperation—one that ensures small island communities like ours are not left behind,” said Governor Bryan. “At this summit, we’ll have the opportunity to bring the Virgin Islands’ voice to the table, share our progress, and have meaningful discussions about the resources we need to meet the moment.”
The Governor will be joined at the summit by international leaders, ministers, and senior officials representing small island developing states, donor nations, and global climate organizations.
While the Governor is attending the Summit, Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq. will serve as Acting Governor in accordance with the Virgin Islands Code. Governor Bryan is scheduled to return to the territory on Monday, June 2.
The Global Sustainable Islands Summit is one of the premier international gatherings focused on environmental and economic sustainability for island territories. The Summit provides a platform for knowledge exchange, partnership-building, and policy innovation among leaders working at the frontlines of the global climate crisis.
