Governor Albert Bryan Jr. Issues April 2025 Proclamations Recognizing Individuals, Causes and Community Celebrations Throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has officially proclaimed a series of observances for the month of April 2025 to recognize outstanding individuals, raise awareness for important causes, and celebrate the rich culture and traditions of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Among the most notable proclamations is a Day of Honor for Susan Wall on April 3, 2025, in recognition of her tremendous contributions to the St. Croix community through her work with St. Croix This Week. Susan Wall curated content that highlighted the unique spirit of St. Croix, supported hundreds of local businesses, and served as a role model and leader for the Territory’s youth.

Governor Bryan also designated April 29, 2025, as APOL1-Mediated Kidney Disease (AMKD) Awareness Day, encouraging residents to learn more about this genetic condition and its impact, particularly within African diaspora communities.

In honor of former Governor Cyril Emmanuel King, born on St. Croix on April 7, 1921, April 7, 2025, is proclaimed Cyril Emmanuel King Day, celebrating his visionary leadership and his lasting contributions to the political, social, and economic development of the Virgin Islands.

The Territory will also celebrate its rich cultural heritage during Carnival St. Thomas’ 73rd Anniversary, taking place from April 27 to May 3, 2025, under the theme “Exposing Our Culture Through Food, Music, and Vibes for Carnival 2025!” Events will include:

• Carnival Village (April 28 – May 3)
• Food Fair (Wednesday, April 30)
• J’ouvert (Thursday, May 1)
• Children’s Parade (Friday, May 2)
• Adult Parade (Saturday, May 3)

Administrative Leave is granted as follows:
• Wednesday, April 30 (St. Thomas/St. John District Only): Noon – 5:00 p.m.
• Thursday, May 1 (St. Thomas/St. John District Only): 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Friday, May 2 (Territory-wide): 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m

In recognition of his legendary athletic career and philanthropic efforts through the Tim Duncan Foundation, April 25, 2025, is proclaimed Timothy Theodore Duncan Day.
Governor Bryan has also declared several broader awareness proclamations for the month of April:

• Distracted Driving Awareness Month
• Second Chance Month
• National School Library Month
• National Library Week (April 6–12)
• National Librarian Day (April 16)
• National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 6–12)
• National Public Health Week (April 7–13)
• Secretaries Week (April 20-26)
• Earth Day (April 22)
• National Administrative Professionals Day (April 23)
• National Apprenticeship Day (April 30)

“These proclamations reflect our deep appreciation for the people who uplift our community, the causes that deserve our attention, and the culture that makes the Virgin Islands unique,” said Governor Bryan. “As we celebrate, let us also recommit to building a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive Territory for all.”
