Rock City United SC Plans Free Girls’ Soccer Clinic

In a sport where access to training and competition is often limited by cost, Rock City United Soccer Club is shifting the narrative.

On Saturday, the all-female club will host a free soccer clinic for girls ages 7–12 at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School soccer field on St. Thomas from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Open to players of all experience levels, the event is designed to cultivate a love of the game without the steep cost of entry.

“We recognize that not all players have the ability to pay hundreds of dollars to join a club or participate in a camp,” explained Anna Scott, cofounder of Rock City United SC, former USVI Women’s National Team player and assistant coach of the U14 Girls’ National Team.

For Rock City United, this isn’t just about teaching soccer skills — it’s about opening doors that might otherwise remain closed.

“We want soccer to be accessible to everyone. We decided to host this free clinic to try to make [it] as widely available as possible,” Scott said. “We plan to host a couple more before the end of the year to encourage and identify players who may not otherwise get a chance to receive top tier training.”

The club’s approach goes beyond the technical aspects of the game. While participants will learn fundamental skills like ball control, passing, dribbling, and shooting, Rock City United sees each clinic as an opportunity to develop character alongside athletic ability.

The session will incorporate the club’s mission to build life skills such as good sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting, and fair play — values that extend far beyond the soccer field and into young players’ daily lives.

Scott emphasized that the 7-12 age group represents a critical window for development, making these clinics particularly meaningful.

At its core, Rock City United’s philosophy centers on joy and inclusivity rather than competition and exclusion. “It’s also meant to be a morning of fun with soccer,” Scott noted. “At the end of the day, we know that having fun while playing is what keeps players engaged and coming back.”

The club’s ultimate goal extends beyond teaching techniques or even discovering talent. “Our hope is that players leave the clinic with a couple new skills and a sense of the joy that should surround playing the game,” Scott said. “Soccer is the world’s most popular sport for a reason!”
