Woman Arrested in Child Abuse Case Following School Report

ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department Domestic Violence Unit has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Althia Henry, in connection with the alleged physical assault of a nine-year-old boy.

According to the VIPD, On on Thursday, school officials contacted the Department of Human Services and VIPD after the child arrived at school with visible injuries. Detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit began an investigation, during which the minor victim provided a statement detailing the incident. According to the boy, Ms. Henry struck him several times with a metal hanger and later used a leather belt to hit him on his body and face. The assault reportedly began following a verbal dispute between the boy and his younger brother.

The child was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Later that day, Ms. Henry was taken into custody by the Domestic Violence Unit. She was advised of her constitutional rights but refused to provide a statement. Ms. Henry was subsequently arrested and charged with child abuse, assault in the third degree, and disturbance of the peace, all of which are classified as acts of domestic violence.

This case remains under active investigation by the Domestic Violence Unit. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Domestic Violence Unit at (340) 715-5535, the Office of the Police Chief, or 911.
