Motorists traveling through Frederiksted and Christiansted this weekend should expect temporary road closures and parking restrictions as multiple community events take place across both towns, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
In Frederiksted, the VIPD announced that on Saturday, December 6, parking will be prohibited on King Street between Market Street and Custom House Street from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate the Crucian Adventure Divers Community Block Party. That section of King Street will also be closed to traffic in both directions. Drivers heading north will be diverted onto Market Street toward either Queen Street or Strand Street, while southbound vehicles will be routed along Custom House Street toward Queen Street.
In Christiansted, the Community Alliance Crucian Cultural Group will require the closure of King Street between Prince Street and King Cross Street from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Eastbound travel on that stretch of roadway will be prohibited, with vehicles redirected onto Prince Street. The VIPD noted that access to King Street from the Strand Lane intersection next to the credit union will not be permitted during the closure.
Police advised that any vehicles parked in restricted areas will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
