Bernard George was found dead on Friday evening on the shoreline of Handsome Bay beach near the airport on Virgin Gorda, police said.
Officers found the decaying body of the Handsome Bay resident after 7 p.m. on responding to reports of an unresponsive person near the water’s edge, according to the Police Information Office.
Investigation launched
“Upon arrival, an investigation was immediately launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery,” police said in a Saturday statement.
The body, they added, was later identified as Mr. George.
Police didn’t provide any more information, but they are asking anyone who has seen Mr. George recently to call their Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS).
“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” police added.
