Virgin Gorda dump gets small admin office

An administration office has been erected at the Virgin Gorda dumpsite as part of efforts to address longstanding health and welfare issues there, according to Department of Waste Management Director Marcus Solomon.

Mr. Solomon said the project was commissioned this month and employees now have full access to the new amenities.

“The space is now equipped with an office space, restroom and shower facilities as well as lunchroom,” he said in a Friday press release. “This upgrade was necessary as we continue to enhance our waste management services.”

Recycling

To further address issues plaguing the territory’s dumpsites, Mr. Solomon is also urging residents to recycle.

“Start by separating plastics and glass and ensure that they are bagged,” he said, adding, “You can also compost your organic waste and drop off your plastics or glass at any of our conveniently located recycling stations throughout the territory.”

Recycling bags are collected daily on Tortola; on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Virgin Gorda; and on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays on Jost Van Dyke, according to the DWM.

Mr. Solomon added that businesses on Tortola can take plastic recyclables directly to Paraquita Bay and glass recyclables directly to Pockwood Pond.
