UVI Hosts Another Successful Afternoon on the Green, Supporting Student Scholarships

For another year, the University of the Virgin Islands has hosted a successful Afternoon on the Green.

Sunday’s event, held on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course, featured the festive music, delicious food, and convivial atmosphere Virgin Islanders have come to expect from the annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the day are funneled into the Edward E. Thomas Senior Volunteer Scholarships fund, which provides three UVI scholarships annually to students residing in St. Thomas-St. John district.

Apart from the food booths, where savory and sweet treats alike were being dished out, patrons availed themselves of health screening services delivered by UVI nursing students, including blood sugar and blood pressure checks, as well as Covid-19 and mental health testing.

The event also featured a station for interviews for the Customs and Border Protection Global Entry program, along with several other service demonstrations and interactive activities, including a special children’s area with face-painting services, bouncy castles and a large play area.

The annual car show was appreciated by attendees, as was the string of performers providing musical accompaniment to the day’s activities.

As always, the event was well-supported by the community – sponsors and patrons alike. “We’re very grateful that you took time out to come be with us today,” said UVI President Dr. Safiya George, who will be officially inaugurated in a ceremony on March 17.
