Two cops injured in single-vehicle wreck

Two police officers were injured in a single-vehicle wreck while they were responding to a report of a sudden death on the night of July 4 in the West End Police District, according to the Police Information Office.

One officer was seriously injured, and the other’s injuries were non-life threatening, police said in a July 5 press release.

As of July 5, both officers were receiving medical care at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

The press release added that the police vehicle involved in the wreck sustained front-end damage.

Police have not provided an update since July 5.

‘Full support’

Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool said the officers would receive the police force’s “full support” during their recovery.

“Out of a need to balance transparency while maintaining investigative integrity, I am unable to give further details until the investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is completed,” she said.

The July 5 press release added that more information will be provided “as necessary.”
