The V.I. Police Department will enforce a series of traffic and parking restrictions in downtown Christiansted on Friday, November 28, during the Christiansted Retail and Restaurant Association’s Black Friday Jump Up event.
The restrictions, announced ahead of the festivities, are intended to manage congestion and ensure pedestrian and vendor safety throughout the evening.
VIPD said no parking will be permitted on several key roadways:
-
King Street from King Cross Street (near Florence Williams Library) to Church Street (King Christian Hotel).
-
Company Street from Church Street (Sonia’s Jewelry) to Queen Cross Street (Hamilton’s Restaurant).
-
The area directly in front of Hamilton’s Restaurant, which will be reserved for vendors.
-
Queen Cross Street from Company Street (Riddims) to the Caravelle Casino.
In addition to parking restrictions, traffic flow will be temporarily altered:
-
No westbound traffic will be allowed onto Company Street from Hospital Street; all westbound vehicles will be rerouted onto Queen Street around Christiansted town.
-
No eastbound traffic will be allowed on King Street past the Florence Williams Library beginning at 4:00 p.m., to allow vendors to set up. Eastbound motorists will be redirected onto King Cross Street.
VIPD warned that any vehicles parked in restricted zones will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
The department thanked residents and visitors for their cooperation as officers work to maintain safety during the Jump Up celebration and extended Thanksgiving greetings to the community.
