Public Hearing Scheduled on Federal Proposal to Repair Lameshur Road on St. John

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources has scheduled a public meeting for December 9, 2025, to review a proposed federal project to repair and rehabilitate Lameshur Road within the Virgin Islands National Park on St. John. The meeting, held by the St. John Committee of the Virgin Islands Coastal Zone Management Commission, will take place at 4:00 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

According to the notice, the hearing concerns Federal Consistency Determination Repair & Maintenance No. 0060-25, submitted by the Federal Highway Administration. The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division of the FHWA, working in coordination with the National Park Service, is proposing extensive work on Lameshur Road.

The project includes rehabilitation of the roadway subgrade and base where needed, roadway grading, and placement of an aggregate surface course. The plan also calls for installation of a cellular confinement system adjacent to low water crossings, the addition of new low water crossings where necessary, drainage improvements, ditch reconditioning, and construction of a new parking area supported by a rockery retaining wall. Other miscellaneous road work is also part of the proposal.

DPNR provided access information for members of the public wishing to attend the meeting. Participation will be through Microsoft Teams using Meeting ID 220 481 453 665 53 and passcode rF7qk38V.

The notice was signed by Jean-Pierre L. Oriol, Commissioner of DPNR.
