ST. THOMAS — A man suspected of fraudulent activity on a cruise ship was instead arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant from the state of Tennessee.
According to court documents, on April 30 the Wonder of the Seas cruise ship was docked in Charlotte Amalie. Security officers aboard the ship reportedly notified Customs and Border Protection that one of the passengers was suspected of fraud. That individual was taken to the Federal Inspection Service checkpoint at the Cyril E. King Airport, where it was discovered that he was using a fraudulent ID.
The man’s real identity was discovered to be Denzel Mason, who had an outstanding arrest warrant from the state of Tennessee for auto theft.
He was then arrested, charged with being a fugitive from justice and detained without bail, in accordance with the warrant that had been issued by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office.
Mr. Mason appeared before Magistrate Paula Norkaitis on Friday for an extradition hearing, where he reportedly waived extradition. The judge remanded him into custody to await the arrival of Tennessee authorities to escort him back to the state.
