ST. CROIX — A late-night shooting in Frederiksted has left one man dead and prompted an active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau’s Major Crime Unit.

According VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, at approximately 10:39 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received a report of gunfire in the Frederiksted area. While patrol units were being dispatched, additional calls came in, reporting further gunshots in Frederiksted Town. Among the subsequent calls was a report of a man lying on the ground.

Responding officers arrived to find a Black male unresponsive in the eastbound lane north of the intersection at King Cross Street. Emergency Medical Services personnel attempted to render aid at the scene but observed no visible signs of life.

According to preliminary findings, the victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. A forensic team processed the scene and collected several spent shell casings as part of the ongoing investigation.

Forensic investigators arrived shortly thereafter and prepared the body for transport. The deceased was identified by family members as Isaiah Fawkes.

The investigation remains open and is being led by the Major Crime Unit of the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. Authorities have not released additional details about possible suspects or motives at this time.
