School visits, book displays and radio spots are among the activities ongoing through tomorrow in observance of Library Week 2025.
This year, the focus is digital.
“Today’s library patrons are technologically savvy, and they have increased expectations about the amount and type of available information they need — and, moreover, the library’s ability to provide that information,” said Chief Librarian Suzanne Greenaway. “By using the library’s Libby app, persons can easily access and explore information from inside the library or from far corners of the territory at their own pace and in their own time.”
In keeping with the digital focus, the week is themed, “Linking You to a World of Information: Your Library, Anytime, Anywhere.”
Community focus
The week’s activities are aimed towards the general community, officials said.
Besides highlighting digital platforms, objectives include promoting local books through displays and readings from local authors on the radio; boosting literacy by encouraging reading and listening to audiobooks; and highlighting the services the library provides to the community, according to government.
This year’s observance was also scheduled to coincide with the global observance yesterday of World Book and Copyright Day.
Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sharie de Castro declared the week open on Monday, and activities are to continue through tomorrow.
