An inmate at His Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut died on Tuesday morning, but no foul play is suspected, the prison service announced the same day in a short statement that provided few details.
“In accordance with established protocols, an investigation is under way and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is conducting the necessary inquiries,” the statement noted. “At this time, there is no indication of suspicious circumstances.”
The statement did not identify the inmate, but it said that their next of kin had been notified.
“The prison chaplain and counsellor remain available to offer support to staff, inmates and family members who may be affected by this loss,” the statement added. “No further information will be provided at this stage.”
