Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, the 13-year-old Texas youth fighting terminal brain and spine cancer, is set to arrive in the U.S. Virgin Islands this week amid his nationwide mission to be sworn in as an honorary cop. The trip, timed with the St. John Celebration, will see DJ sworn in during the St. John Parade, a ceremony highlighting his resilience and the unity he inspires among law enforcement and the community.
DJ’s visit, hosted from July 1 to July 8 by the Policemen’s Benevolent Association, coincides with his role in the St. John festivities. He will be sworn in as an Honorary Virgin Islands Police Officer — a heartfelt moment intended to uplift both residents and officers.
His mission has garnered national attention, with DJ visiting more than 900 law enforcement agencies since his cancer diagnosis in 2018. In March, President Donald Trump named him an honorary Special Agent during a joint address to Congress, and he was officially sworn in by Secret Service Director Sean Curran in Beltsville, Maryland. DJ also toured the Secret Service training center before receiving credentials and a badge.
Most recently, the White House revealed that DJ is now facing three additional tumors, while continuing his inspirational journey. Even as he undergoes treatment, he has surpassed his goal of being sworn in by over 1,300 law enforcement agencies and urged communities to act with compassion and unity.
Bringing DJ to St. John has been a collaborative effort, with support from the Office of the Governor, Asta Cruise Port Villas, Bronx Communications, VIPA, the Department of Tourism and Division of Festivals, Royal Limo Services, and numerous local businesses and law enforcement agencies.
The Policemen’s Benevolent Association invited the public to celebrate DJ’s visit and reinforced the message that “no badge is more powerful than a brave heart… DJ’s heart shines as brightly as any star in our territory.”
