First-Ever Make It Happen Fundraiser at Carambola Golf Club to Provide Aid for Virgin Islands Students

The Make It Happen Foundation has announced its first-ever T-Off-4 Tuition Golf Benefit, a two-day fundraiser created to provide scholarships and emergency financial assistance for Virgin Islands high school students pursuing college degrees or vocational certifications.

The benefit will be held at Carambola Golf Club beginning with a Cocktail Party on Saturday, August 23, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., followed by a Golf Tournament on Sunday, August 24, starting at 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend the cocktail event, which will feature light refreshments, live entertainment, a drink ticket, and raffle prizes including a 65-inch television and dinner or jewelry gift certificates. Tickets are $50.

Golfers participating in Sunday’s tournament will pay $175 per player, which includes an embroidered golf shirt, swag bag, breakfast snacks, lunch buffet, and entry into a raffle for a generator.

Board Chair Nykole Tyson said the fundraiser is designed to directly benefit students who need financial resources to stay on track with their educational goals. “We are thrilled to bring the community together for this exciting event, where every swing of the golf club and every raffle ticket purchased directly supports Virgin Islands students in achieving their educational and career goals,” Tyson stated. “The generosity of our sponsors and participants will have a lasting impact, providing critical financial resources that help students succeed.”

The idea for the event originated earlier this year when a University of the Virgin Islands student experienced financial hardship mid-semester. Tyson envisioned a program that could provide emergency relief to students facing similar obstacles. Encouraged by Bruce Claridge, Manager of Cost U Less, she worked to bring the idea to life within a matter of months. Planning began in March, and the inaugural event was scheduled for August.

Formed in 2023 and officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) in May 2025, the Make It Happen Foundation focuses on mentorship and empowerment for Virgin Islands youth, a mission Tyson has personally supported since 2008.
