Father and Son Arrested After ShotSpotter Detects Gunfire in Estate Upper Love

ST. CROIX — A shooting incident reported in the Estate Upper Love area has led to the arrest of two men and the recovery of three loaded firearms, according to the V.I. Police Department. The incident, which initially occurred in April, resulted in the arrests of Elijah Spencer, 23, and his father, Tony Elizee, 41, following the execution of a search and arrest warrant on June 10.

The case stems from a report received on April 19 when the ShotSpotter detection system alerted law enforcement to 13 rounds fired in the Upper Love area. That same night, the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports that Elijah Spencer had allegedly discharged a firearm at an occupied vehicle following an argument at a local night club. Although several shell casings were recovered at the scene, no injuries were reported. The case was assigned to detectives within the Criminal Investigation Bureau for further investigation.

Following the investigation, a judge of the V.I. Superior Court issued a search and arrest warrant on June 2. The warrant was executed eight days later at Spencer’s residence, where officers located and confiscated three loaded firearms. At the time of the search, Elijah Spencer was under house arrest and subject to court-imposed conditions, including electronic monitoring with an ankle bracelet for an unrelated matter.

Spencer was arrested without incident and charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree attempted murder, first and third-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime, possession or sale of ammunition, first-degree reckless endangerment, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $100,000.

During the same operation, Spencer’s father, Tony Elizee, was present at the residence and was also taken into custody after being found in unauthorized possession of a firearm. Elizee’s bail was set at $50,000.

Neither Spencer nor Elizee was able to post bail. Both were booked and transported to the John A. Bell Correctional Facility. Their Advice of Rights hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the V.I. Superior Court on St. Croix.
