Family Resource Center Says It’s First V.I. Nonprofit to Guarantee Livable Wage for All Staff

The Family Resource Center (FRC), a longtime advocate for trauma-informed care and family violence prevention in the Virgin Islands, recently announced that it has taken a bold and historic step by ensuring that every member of its staff now earns a livable wage of at least $57,900 annually.

The move, part of FRC’s newly launched Staff-First Initiative, positions the organization as the first nonprofit in the U.S. Virgin Islands to implement an equity-centered compensation model tied directly to the cost of living in the territory, according to the release.

“Our mission is to end family violence through trauma-informed services, prevention, and education, but we know we cannot do that without taking care of the people who do the work,” said Anya Stuart, Executive Director of FRC.

FRC Board President Imani Daniel echoed the importance of this internal shift, stating, “This isn’t just about salaries. It’s about healing generational harm, modeling equity as a process, and creating a healthy, high-impact workforce that can better serve our community”.

The implications of this initiative are far-reaching. In addition to improving recruitment and retention, the policy is expected to reduce burnout, ease financial stress, and enhance employee satisfaction and organizational culture. FRC leadership believes that these internal improvements will translate to more impactful, compassionate service for families navigating crisis.

By centering its compensation strategy around staff well-being, the nonprofit aims to foster a workplace culture grounded in justice, healing, and sustainability—principles it hopes will ripple outward to the broader community.

To support the continued success of this equity model, FRC is calling on the Virgin Islands community to stand in solidarity with its mission. Members of the public can get involved in several ways:

  • Attend the 2025 Peacemaker Gala: Masquerade for a Cause, scheduled for June 7, 2025

  • Donate online at www.usvifrc.org

  • Volunteer for programs and events

  • Host a fundraiser

  • Share FRC’s story within your networks

“Let’s continue making history, together,” the organization said in its release.
