Coconut Reigns Again as Tart Wars Returns to Frederiksted With Thousands in Attendance and Over 8,000 Tarts Sold

FREDERIKSTED, ST. CROIX — Tart Wars made a triumphant return to the west on Saturday, drawing large crowds and providing a major boost to local vendors in its second installment. The event, organized by West Gyul, followed up on last year’s successful debut with another day filled with games, community spirit, and, of course, tarts.

The numbers spoke for themselves. According to West Gyul, vendors sold over 8,000 tarts throughout the day—an impressive figure that suggests thousands of attendees passed through the Frederiksted gathering. But the economic impact extended beyond pastry sales, as vendors also offered a wide range of local favorites, turning the event into a visible lift for small businesses and entrepreneurs across the island.

While the day served as a celebration of culture and community, the competition remained at the heart of it all. Coconut once again claimed the crown, successfully defending its title as champion of Tart Wars.

The competition was close. In the trivia segment, Pineapple emerged victorious, while Coconut won the games portion, and Guava captured the most support in the community voting round. With each tart claiming one win, the result was a three-way tie.

To settle it, organizers initiated a sudden-death final game with a simple rule: if your tart drops, your team is out. In the end, only one tart remained standing. Coconut held on—securing its second consecutive victory in a row and solidifying its reputation as the reigning flavor of Tart Wars.

With its family-friendly atmosphere, strong turnout, and clear benefits to the local economy, Tart Wars Part Two proved to be more than just a food competition. It was a gathering that celebrated the flavors, fun, and community spirit of the Virgin Islands—one tart at a time.
