The Anderson Stewart Family Foundation has announced a $1 million donation to the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), formalizing the family’s long-standing commitment to the territory and laying the groundwork for permanent philanthropic support throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The contribution will establish a donor-advised fund managed by CFVI. Unlike traditional one-time grants, the fund is structured to grow over time, using investment income to support local nonprofit organizations across the Virgin Islands in perpetuity. Annual distributions will be based on the fund’s investment returns, creating an ongoing stream of support for charitable efforts. CFVI’s expertise in the territory’s nonprofit landscape will guide the disbursement of funds.

“This generous gift not only builds on the Anderson family’s legacy in the Virgin Islands, but it will provide a sustainable funding source to address pressing community needs for years to come,” said Dee Baecher-Brown, President of CFVI.

While the Anderson family has recently divested from business interests in the Virgin Islands, this contribution reaffirms their continued dedication to the territory’s future. The family’s relationship with the Virgin Islands spans over four decades, and their philanthropic reach has supported dozens of nonprofit initiatives across the islands.

“On behalf of the Anderson family, we are truly honored to continue our 40-year investment in the Virgin Islands,” said Richard Berry, spokesperson for the family. “During this time, we have been able to support dozens of nonprofit initiatives throughout the territory, and we are excited to continue these efforts. We are looking forward to helping today and in future generations.”

Baecher-Brown emphasized the symbolic and practical importance of the new fund. “The Anderson family has a long history of supporting charitable initiatives in the Virgin Islands,” she said. “The establishment of this fund reflects their desire to maintain a strong connection with the islands and ensure their name continues to be associated with positive change in the community. We are honored by their trust in CFVI and look forward to collaborating to assure a lasting impact across our islands.”

The fund is designed to operate indefinitely, reinforcing the family’s belief in philanthropic longevity. Its purpose is not just to provide immediate assistance, but to ensure a stable, sustainable funding pipeline for future generations.

This latest contribution deepens the Anderson Stewart Family Foundation’s legacy in the Virgin Islands and provides a reliable vehicle for ongoing investment in community well-being. With this donation, CFVI continues to serve as a steward for philanthropic efforts that are deeply rooted in the community and designed to evolve with its needs.
