20-Year-Old Arrested After Dozens of Shots Fired in St. Croix’s JFK Housing Community

ST. CROIX — A barrage of gunfire in the John F. Kennedy housing community on Wednesday afternoon has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man now facing multiple firearm-related charges, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The incident occurred on July 9 at approximately 3:11 p.m., when VIPD’s ShotSpotter system detected about 52 gunshots fired within the area. Responding officers from the Criminal Investigation Bureau arrived at the scene shortly after and found numerous spent shell casings along with six vehicles visibly damaged by gunfire.

Through their investigation, detectives identified Marcos Gilbert, age 20, as being involved in the incident. Gilbert was advised of his Miranda Rights, taken into custody, and formally booked.

He faces several serious charges, including reckless endangerment in the first-degree, carrying of firearms openly or concealed, evidence of intent to commit a crime of violence, and possession or sale of ammunition.

Gilbert was unable to post the court-ordered $30,000 bail and was subsequently transported to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility, where he remains incarcerated pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.
