According to a news release issued by the VIPD, the minor was taken into custody by the department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau and is facing a slate of serious charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The suspect has been transported to the Youth Rehabilitation Center (YRC), where he will be held pending an upcoming court hearing.

“This heartbreaking event unfolded in broad daylight, shaking our community,” said Acting Police Commissioner Sean Santos. “The young man who lost his life did so under circumstances that are both shocking and deeply saddening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time”.

Mr. Jones, widely known across the Virgin Islands for his comedic skits, music, and cultural commentary under the stage name “Dutty Heart,” was fatally shot during a confrontation on the Christiansted Boardwalk around 12:52 p.m. Thursday. He later died from multiple gunshot wounds at the Juan F. Luis Hospital.

Another individual was injured during the altercation, suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
